The Gambia Immigration Department has issued a press release calling on all Non-Gambians to start securing relevant documents in order to regularize their stay as legal residents in the country. The release also stated that in accordance with the Immigration information policy, the Department wishes to inform all Non-Gambians that annual identification card is now readily available throughout the country.

The release also stated that from February 2007, the yearly residential and work permit will also be available. “West African nationals can in general secure their permits from country offices. However, nationals outside West Africa should register at the Immigration Head Quarter in Banjul . The press release further advised that it is the duty of everyone to ensure that they are legally resident at all time.

“Though yearly registration is not necessary for Gambians, it is part of their duty and honour to be in possession of an up to date national Identification Card.” “Identity Cards and Residential Permits help greater personal security,” the release concluded.
