Like the Industrial Revolution which positively impacted the world throughout the early 1900s, the 2018 Bio’s revolution in Sierra Leone is the gate way for the country to attain a middle income status with serious socio-economic surge.
A group of patriotic musicians have been traveling across Sierra Leone galvanizing citizens’ effective participation in the electoral process through entertainment as the small West African country marches towards General Elections on March 7th 2018.
The result of the Sierra Leone presidential election has just been announced by the Chief Electoral Commissioner – Mr Nfa Alie Conteh in Freetown.
Julius Maada Bio of the opposition SLPP is the new president of Sierra Leone, polling 1,319,406 – which is 51.82% of the total votes cast; and the ruling APC party candidate – Dr Samura Kamara, with 1,227, 171, which is 48.19% of the total votes cast.
After so much ramblings and name callings, the much awaited elections that will make or break Sierra Leone are almost here. Some laws in the constitution that until now have remained dormant, have suddenly surfaced; obviously a deliberate act used by the powers that be to their own advantage, and to deflect the attention of the masses from issues that matter most.
According to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report, “The narrowing of the participatory process did not end with the transfer of power from President Siaka Stevens to his APC successor President J.S.Momoh in 1985. In deed the succession itself epitomized many of the deficiencies in the wider political process.
